If you work in construction, you’ll understand the importance of good quality construction rain gear. It needs to keep you dry, warm, comfortable, not too heavy, but heavy enough to protect you - sometimes all at the same time.

Work doesn't stop when it rains, and as a construction professional, you need a set of best rain gear for construction to protect you from getting wet, to keep you comfortable, and most importantly, to make sure you can stay productive.

That's why professional quality construction rain gear is so important. It's not as simple as putting a waterproof jacket over your normal work clothes.

Construction Rain Gear – Key Characteristics

From light rain to heavy rain, quality rain gear needs to handle it all. It must also be comfortable, durable and keep you at the right level of warmth.

The characteristics to look out for, in order of importance, are:

1. Waterproof. If your rain gear isn't waterproof, what good is it? It may have the pattern design you dreamed of, but if you still get wet in a downpour, the rest of the day will be miserable. The best quality rain gear is made of PVC, or contains a mixture of PVC and other materials. PVC is a synthetic plastic polymer. It's multi-functional, waterproof and very strong.

2. Lightweight and mobility. Again, if your rain gear does a good job of keeping water out, but at the expense of comfort and mobility, you will still be less productive. A heavy and draggy piece of clothing will be a burden to wear. Construction rain gear should make it easy for the wearer to move around.

3. Heavy duty: If you do abrasive work then you need heavy duty construction rain gear. 600gsm or more PVC is ideal as it is strong and resilient.

4. Functionality - Depending on the kind of work you do and the other equipment and accessories you have, the functionality of construction rain gear can be divided into "essential" and "icing on the cake". Some professionals like to keep their rain gear lean and basic, meeting only the basic requirements. Others prefer as many different pockets, accessories and adjusters as possible. It depends on personal taste, but we have included "functionality" in this list of key features.

In Summary

No one knows better than you how you want to work. Some people are less productive when they feel restricted by wearing multiple layers of clothing. Others are afraid to work while feeling the bone-chilling cold.

Choose the best rain gear for construction and with the right clothing you will be protected in all situations and no amount of cold, long downpours can affect you.

Our strongest advice is to always invest in high quality materials and sturdy designs to the extent that you can afford them. Even if it is lightweight, cool, and waterproof, if it is not strong enough to withstand the rigors of construction site use, it will halve the return on investment if it must be replaced in a few months.
