A welding mask is a kind of eye protection tool often used in welding work. With the increase of people's awareness of labor protection and the improvement of the quality of welding products, the original handheld fixed shade mask can no longer adapt to these requirements. Welding mask came into being.

What are the hazards of not wearing a mask when welding?

The eyes and face are the organs of the human body that are directly exposed to the outside world and are vulnerable to various harmful factors, especially the eyes, which have the greatest chance of being injured. In the welding work, the eyes and facial skin to cause a direct threat are arc radiation, radiation, high-frequency electromagnetic field, and thermal radiation. Among them, arc radiation is in third place among all harmful factors, which is very harmful to workers. The industrial welding process, the heat source in more than 1000 degrees, can produce strong light, ultraviolet, infrared and other rays. And the human eye crystal body is the most sensitive to radiation. After being exposed to X-ray radiation, the eyes can become congested within a few hours. Prolonged exposure to strong ultraviolet radiation can lead to electrophthalmia and eye pain, tearing, photophobia, and foreign body sensation. Severe cases can lead to cataracts. A welding mask can filter out all the ultraviolet rays, infrared rays, and other rays so that the welders' eyes are fully protected. At the same time, because the mask used in the material has heat-resistant properties, so the user can be protected from the hazards of heat radiation.

What is the electric arc? Can the welding mask prevent the arc from hurting the eyes?

The electric arc is the last thing the eyes want to come into direct contact with during the welding process. The electric arc releases several types of rays including ultraviolet, infrared, and high-intensity visible light. Ultraviolet and infrared rays can cause permanent damage to the human eye. Visible light does not cause permanent damage to the eyes, but it can cause temporary discomfort to the welder's eyes. It is as if your eyes were exposed to a flashing light. Light-controlled face shields have a dual-protection lens set, i.e., UV and IR-protection lenses. The general mask has only UV or IR lenses, which cannot eliminate both types of harmful rays.

What kind of welding mask should be chosen in order to protect the eyes in welding?

Some people believe that the shading rate is linked to the degree of eye protection, so the higher the value the better the eye protection. But in fact, light-controlled masks can filter out most of the harmful ultraviolet and infrared rays, so the choice of blackout masks is just a matter of comfort or not. The value of the mask simply indicates the level of shade provided under a particular mask, and welders should choose one that is most comfortable and maintains good visibility under the conditions of the particular application. Choosing a shading mask allows you to clearly see the arc starting point and helps you improve your welding.
