A safety helmet (also known as a helmet) is an essential piece of protective equipment when working. It helps protect your head from major injuries such as impacts and knocks, and can prevent or reduce brain damage from falling objects, head impacts with other objects, etc. In short, proper head protection can prevent most head injuries and can even save your life! Do you know anything about the different types of helmets? I hope you have more understanding of the different types of safety helmets by reading this article.

What Is a Helmet?

The wearing of safety helmets is mandatory and critical in almost all workplaces where there is a risk of injury. Industrial safety helmets are the most common and basic form of PPE.

Safety helmets have the following components designed to provide good head protection.

-Shell.

-Harness.

-Headband.

The shell is usually made of polyethylene and the internal harness has a system of strips made of polyethylene or woven tape. To increase the stability of the wear, the headband has an adjustment mechanism to change the height and length of its wear.

Different Types of Safety Helmets for Head Protection

Different Types of Safety Helmets

Safety Helmets - Lightweight

Due to their light weight, lightweight helmets are popular in workplaces where the risk of falling objects is particularly low, such as in low-rise construction, highway maintenance, and utilities.

For workers working on the roadside who are not at risk of anything falling, helmets are needed to prevent injuries caused by rocks or other loose objects flying up and hitting their heads. For example, a worker lifting a pipe cover on the road or an electrical engineer inspecting a cabinet.

Safety Helmets - Standard

These helmets are appropriate if there is a risk that your head may be struck by a falling object while working, and are the most common type of helmet used in the workplace.

Safety Helmets - Industrial

The more traditional models usually weigh about 400 grams to 500 grams and have a strong and uniformly thick shell. This is ideal when an object could fall on them from the side or top and hit them in the head. For example, workers digging a foundation in a hole.

High performance industrial safety helmet

This is suitable for locations where objects and debris can fall, such as mining and quarrying.

Impact caps

The fitted baseball cap style provides a minimum level of protection for the head. It provides padded protection against impacts from static objects.

Mountaineering Helmet

This type of helmet has become popular among scaffolders to protect them from hazards such as swinging tubing.

Anti-static

For use in potentially explosive environments.

Motorcycle helmets

For motorcyclists and moped riders to wear on the road.

Choosing the Right Helmet

Faced with different types of safety helmets, how should we choose a safety helmet, there are many factors to consider. No one helmet is right for everyone, and in deciding which helmet is appropriate for the work environment, it is important to determine the tasks the worker will perform and the limitations and risks of the activities that need to be provided, as well as the performance and comfort of wearing it. All things considered, choose the right type of safety helmet for you.
